PARKMAN NEWS—JUNE 2018 EDITION

  • The Historical Society will meet on Monday, June 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Parkman Baptist Church. ​​ The history of the church will be given at this meeting. ​​ All are welcome to attend.

 

  • The Parkman Prowlers will meet on Tuesday, June 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • The Parkman Grange will meet on Tuesday, June 5th at 6:00 p.m. at the Parkman Grange Hall. ​​ All are welcome to attend this meeting.

 

  • The Planning Board will meet on Thursday, June 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • The Primary and Special Referendum Election will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. ​​ Polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ​​ Election will be held in the lower level of the Parkman Town Office. ​​ This election will be conducted using a method of ranked-choice voting, sometimes called “instant run-off voting,” allows voters to choose their candidates in order of preference, by marking candidates as their first, second, third, and subsequent choices. ​​ Attached to this newsletter you will find more information on ranked-choice voting. ​​ The deadline for a voter to request an absentee ballot, including a ballot voted in the presence of a clerk is, Thursday, June 7th at 1:00 p.m. ​​ The Parkman Town Office will be closed for business on Election Day.

 

  • The last day of school for SAD #4 is Friday, June 15, 2018.

 

  • Time Lab Summer Bible Club will begin on Thursday, June 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ​​ It is for kids ages 5 to 12 featuring music, drama, crafts, outdoor games, snacks, prizes, and Bible Stories. ​​ This is a free program open to all children in the community. ​​ Younger children may attend if accompanied by an adult. ​​ Pre-registration is recommended. ​​ You can call 717-5929 for more information about registration. ​​ They will also meet on June 28th, July 12th, and July 19th.

 

  • Minnie Bridge scholarship applications are available at the Parkman Town Office. ​​ $500 scholarships will be given to Parkman residents who have completed one year of higher education. ​​ The deadline for entries is June 15, 2018.

 

  • The Board of Selectmen will meet on Thursday, June 14th and Thursday, June 28th at 6:00 p.m. in the library of the Parkman Town Office.

 

  • Fire permits can be obtained at KC’s Country Store from Pam Sukis: 876-4111 and from Danny White at 85 Crow Hill Road: 876-2681.

 

  • The Transfer Station is open on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to Noon. ​​ The Transfer Station accepts household trash, demo debris, metal, refrigerators, air conditioners, TV’s, monitors, and fluorescent light bulbs. ​​ Please ask attendant where to leave each of these items. ​​ The Transfer Station does not accept motor oil or gas, antifreeze, batteries, propane tanks, truck or tractor tires, paint cans with paint in them, or gas tanks (unless cut into and dry, then they can be put in the metal container).

 

  • Building permits are available at the Parkman Town Office and online at www.parkmanmaine.com. ​​ 

 

  • The 2018/2019 ATV Registrations and stickers are now available. ​​ If you are registering an ATV for the first time, please bring in a bill of sale or proof of sales tax from a dealer at the time of registration. ​​ Renewal fee for residents is $34.00 and $69.00 for non-residents. ​​ First time registration for residents is $35.00 and $70.00 for non-resident. ​​ ATV’s DO NOT require a title.

 

  • Boat Registrations DO NOT require a title. ​​ If you are registering a boat for the first time, please bring in a bill of sale or proof of sales tax paid from a dealer at time of registration. ​​ Registration fee is based on length of boat and horsepower.

 

  • The Parkman Baptist Church holds worship services every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. ​​ All are welcome to attend.

 

  • Sonia Sanborn is the Animal Control Officer for the Town of Parkman. ​​ She can be reached at 876-3000 (h) or 343-0455 (c). ​​ Sonia deals with domestic animals only, for wildlife issues please contact a Game Warden.

 

  • To rent the Parkman Grange Hall for an event or function please contact Don Pepin at 343-0274.

 

  • If you need a certified copy of a birth, death, or marriage certificate, please call ahead to the Parkman Town Office at 876-3730. ​​ The fee is $15.00 for one copy, and $6.00 for any additional copies of the same record requested at the same time.

 

  • 5 Guns in 5 Minutes Gun Raffle Tickets are now available at KC’s Country Store, Herring Brothers, Lovell Hardware, Parkman Town Office, and Mountains Sporting Goods in Dover-Foxcroft which has guns on display. ​​ Tickets are $10.00.

 

  • The fee for a marriage license is $40.00. ​​ Marriage applications are valid 90 days from issue. ​​ Both the bride and groom must sign the application is the presence of a clerk at the Parkman Town Office. ​​ If this isn’t your first marriage, please bring a copy of your divorce decree or death certificate when completing the application. ​​ Please note that you must call the Parkman Town Office at 876-3730 to schedule an appointment to obtain your marriage license.

 

  • Attention Musicians: ​​ Open jam every Sunday outside at the Red Maple in Guilford from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. weather permitting. ​​ Bring your instruments, bring your voice, or just come have fun and listen. ​​ Any questions please call 277-3540.

 

  • Proof of insurance is required to register vehicles. ​​ The Town Office accepts electronic proof of insurance or you can have your insurance agent fax proof to 876-9704.

 

  • White’s Family Redemption is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ​​ They are located at 85 Crow Hill Road. ​​ 876-2681.

  • The Town of Parkman is looking for people to join the Cemetery Committee. ​​ If you are interested there is a sign-up sheet in the Parkman Town Office or call the office at 876-3730.
